Why block sampling is better
Instead of grabbing one noisy pixel, this tool averages a small area so your sampled colors better represent the real surface, fabric, wall, or graphic element.
Cleaner color picks
Averaging filters compression artifacts, anti-aliasing, and tiny details.
Adjustable precision
Use larger blocks for broad areas and smaller blocks for fine texture.
Consistent previews
The sample swatch makes it easier to compare captures side by side.

Sampling tips
Use 32–64 px blocks for walls, skies, and broad surfaces.
Larger blocks smooth out texture and give you the dominant color.
Use 4–16 px blocks for patterns, textiles, and small details.
Smaller blocks help you isolate specific accents and fine grain.
Avoid harsh shadows and highlights when matching real-world colors.
Mid-tone areas usually give the most accurate color match.
Capture multiple nearby samples to confirm consistency.
Two or three close samples help you spot lighting variation.

Frequently Asked Questions
?Does my image ever leave my computer?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser. No data is uploaded or stored on MightyPaint's servers.
?Why is the sampled color slightly different?
Block sampling averages multiple pixels. Use a smaller block size when you need finer detail.
?Can I sample transparent areas?
Fully transparent pixels do not have a meaningful visible color. Semi-transparent areas may be affected by the image background.
?How do I copy the HEX code?
Click Capture Color, then use the HEX row or Copy HEX button to copy it to your clipboard.
?What if my image is very large?
The image is scaled for browser performance while preserving the visual result. You can crop externally if you need extreme precision.
